Polish libertarian politician and presidential hopeful Sławomir Mentzen has made a bold pledge to establish Poland as a global leader in cryptocurrency adoption. If elected in 2025, Mentzen vows to create a national Bitcoin reserve and foster a crypto-friendly environment.
Poland as a “Cryptocurrency Haven”
In a recent post on X, Mentzen declared:
“If I become the President of Poland, our country will become a cryptocurrency haven, with very friendly regulations, low taxes, and a supportive approach from banks and regulators.”
This vision mirrors Donald Trump’s pro-Bitcoin stance during his re-election campaign. Following Trump’s victory, Bitcoin’s price skyrocketed past $90,000 amid anticipation of his crypto-focused policies.
Bitcoin Reserve Over Legislation
Mentzen has placed greater emphasis on building a Bitcoin reserve than enacting crypto legislation. When asked on X about prioritizing a reserve over passing a crypto bill, Mentzen responded decisively:
“Of course.”
He further elaborated that Poland is well-positioned to develop a strategic Bitcoin reserve, a move he views as crucial for the nation’s financial future.
Rising Bitcoin Adoption in Poland
Poland’s cryptocurrency landscape has seen remarkable growth. In 2017, fewer than one million Poles held Bitcoin, but that figure has surged to 7 million as of this year, according to Statista. Projections indicate this number could reach 8 million by 2028.
A Long-Term Bitcoin Holder
Mentzen himself is no stranger to Bitcoin. He has been investing in the cryptocurrency since 2013 and currently holds 33.7 BTC, valued at over $3 million. Despite recent record highs, he remains committed to his long-term strategy of holding Bitcoin.
In an interview with Kanga Exchange, Mentzen explained his approach:
“It’s hard to judge exactly when something is expensive and when it’s cheap. The trick is to refrain from selling it for many years.”
He also emphasized that selling his Bitcoin would have little impact on his lifestyle, reinforcing his dedication to the asset.
Looking Ahead
Poland’s presidential election is set for May 2025. If Sławomir Mentzen’s promises materialize, Poland could emerge as a global hub for cryptocurrency innovation and investment.
